Education Director

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Education Director to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with a passion for education and a strong background in senior leadership within educational institutions. The Education Director position serves to promote and develop community education, curriculum and work towards delivering the mission of BCB. This is a contractor position that reports directly to the Executive Director. 

Part – Time 3 days per week in-person (Rate $25- $30 per hour)

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the educational programs and services.
  • Provide senior leadership in the development and implementation of educational strategies.
  • Oversee education administration, including curriculum development and program evaluation.
  • Lead fundraising efforts to support educational initiatives.
  • Develop and manage budgets for educational programs.
  • Supervise and support staff members to ensure effective program delivery.
  • Engage in strategic planning to enhance the quality of education provided.
  • Conduct public speaking engagements to promote the organization’s educational mission.
  • Creates and facilitates partnerships with local middle schools, high schools and colleges.
  • Facilitates and develops multi-visit programs with partners aligned to NJ Education standards.
  • Reports to the Executive Director concerning areas of responsibilities.
  • Other related duties may be assigned.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing educational programs
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record in senior leadership roles
  • Proficiency in education administration and curriculum development
  • Experience in fundraising for educational initiatives
  • Ability to budget and manage financial resources effectively
  • Skilled in supervising staff members to achieve program goals
  • Strategic planning abilities to drive educational excellence
  • Excellent public speaking skills to engage diverse audiences
  • Ability to develop and implement environmental and history based curriculum.
  • Experience in developing partnerships, MOUs, and community education programs.
  • 2 + years of Formal Educational experience. 
  • Good written, verbal and interpersonal skills required; ability to interact with all levels of staff
  • Professional presentation, appearance, and work ethic  
  • Sufficient computer skills to Google Workspace – Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, & Calendar.

Through the state’s official tall ship, the oyster schooner AJ Meerwald and an historic waterfront museum, the Bayshore Center at Bivalve (BCB) will advance the understanding of the human impact on New Jersey’s aquatic environment through education, advocacy, and programming.
